YouTube can provide subtitles.  Simply click the 'Continue' button.  It is found in the row of icons in the bottom right of the video.  It is the furthest left of the row next to the cog button and looks like a tiny keyboard.



You can switch on subtitles on mobile devices (tablets & smart-phones, etc in the mobile app as follows:-

  1. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner.  Tap the vertical three dots in the upper right;

  2. Tap the CC icon or Captions, in the menu.  Select Captions in the menu;

  3. Select the type of captioning you prefer.  Choose your captions preferences.
